Do I get paid to be an extra?

Yes! Background work is paid.

Pay rates are always included in our booking emails and casting notices. Depending on the project (and their budget) you could make anywhere between $130 - $200+ a day.

Typically, extras'/background actors' rates will be listed in a format such as: $130/8.

  • $130 is the total amount that an extra/background actor will receive for a filming day.
  • 8 is the number of hours considered to be a standard workday for an extra/background actor.

Therefore $130/8 means that for 8 hours of work, a background actor (BG) will get paid $130. If the workday exceeds 8 hours, overtime is applied at time + half. If the workday is shorter than 8 hours, BG still get paid the full day rate.
