Is bringing my own wardrobe important?

Yes! In most cases, background actors are expected to provide their own wardrobe for filming.

Unless you've been specifically told that production will supply your clothing, you should plan to wear or bring the wardrobe requested in your Booking or Call Info email.

Follow Your Wardrobe Notes Carefully

Always read your wardrobe instructions thoroughly and be honest if you don't own the clothing needed for the role. Let casting know as soon as possible if you're unable to meet the wardrobe requirements so we can determine the best course of action.

Unless your wardrobe instructions say otherwise, it's generally best to:

  • Wear clean, wrinkle-free clothing.
  • Avoid visible logos, graphics, or copyrighted designs.
  • Avoid overly bright colors or busy patterns that may distract on camera.
  • Follow any color restrictions provided by production.

Every production has different wardrobe needs, so the instructions you receive for your booking always take priority.

Transport Your Wardrobe Properly

If you're bringing your wardrobe to set instead of wearing it, transport it in a garment bag whenever possible. This helps keep your clothing clean, pressed, and camera-ready.

Why Wardrobe Matters

Your wardrobe plays an important role in creating a believable scene. Whether you're portraying a business executive, restaurant patron, police officer, or courtroom spectator, your appearance helps sell the reality of the production.

For example, if you're cast as a successful attorney, arriving with a wrinkled suit or stained tie may prevent production from using you in prominent shots.

The more authentic and polished your wardrobe looks, the more likely you are to fit seamlessly into the scene.
